Politicians need to take care of noxious odor at garbage dump

The same people who fought against the waste dumping in our community in the 1970s are now in their retirement years. I remember as a child that they protested against the said dump that is now in Lake Orion.
The Palace, home of the Pistons, moved back to Detroit for many reasons, one because of the nasty, smelly dump located next door to them.
Recently, my law office received many complaints of the nasty smell caused by the said dump allowed to exist by our well-paid politicians.
It is time for our local politicians to hold these companies responsible for the destructive behavior that may be putting our citizens’ health at risk.

  1. I agree. I live just north of the current dump site at Silver Bell and I’ve worked across from the dump site at Dutton for the last 5 years. I’ve been exposed to the disgusting odor at work and now that they are dumping at the Silver Bell site, I will have to endure that odor for years to come. I can’t imagine what this dump site has done to the value of the homes around it. I know I wouldn’t buy a home near there after smelling that filth. JUST WAIT FOR SUMMER!! Terrible place for the city to allow this dump site.

  2. Hear, hear!!!! When the smell is evident all the way into the Village there is a huge problem. The weed factory over near GM was made to spend a whole bunch ‘o’ money on scrubbers to keep their stink in. But the big money, lawyered up, trash folks can tell us the smell is subjective and get away with it. Obviously we over consumers need a trash dump but there has to be a way.
I dont know how Culvers or the mobile home park handles it. Aside from the threat of our sewer system leaking into Lake Orion this stank is going to render L.O. a dump.
