West Side Story is considered to be one of the greatest musicals of all time. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim is one of Broadway’s finest and features such classics of the American musical theatre as “Something’s Coming,” “Tonight,” “Maria,” “America,” “I Feel Pretty” and “Somewhere.”
The LOHS production is directed by Scott Finn. Musical Director: Michael Steele, Vocal Music Director: Bryce Thompson, Choreography: Stacey Fleming, Theater Manager: Drew Fry. Featuring Jason Donaven as Tony, Ginger Johnson and Kristin Penrose as Maria (alternating performances), Ryan Wynn and Celeste Reyes as Anita (alternating performances) and Dominick Todero as Riff.
West Side Story: book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, original production directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins. Produced on Broadway by Robert E. Griffith and Harold S. Prince with arrangements by Robert L. Stevens. West Side Story is presented through special arrangement with Music Theater International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. MTIShows.com.
