The Lake Orion High School Varsity Boys Tennis team faced two of their northern Oakland County rivals last week, defeating the Clarkston Wolves 6-2 on Wednesday, Sept. 1, and shutting out the Oxford Wildcats, 8-0 on Thursday, Sept. 2, improving to 3-1 on the season.
Against Clarkston, the Dragons split the singles matches with senior Jin Yim winning 6-4, 6-0 in #2 singles, and senior Will Durbin winning 6-2, 6-3 in #3 singles.
The Dragons cleared the board in the double matches, led by the #1 doubles team of seniors Nate Fox and Blake Skibicki, 7-5 and 6-3.
Seniors Kellen Foley and Bryce Stanfield won 6-3, 7-5 in #2 doubles, senior Ruben DesLosRios and junior Jake Beach bageled 6-0, 6-0 in #3 doubles, junior Daniel Pavelich and sophomore Michael Porkorny won 6-0, 6-1 in #4 doubles. Sophomore Anthony Roncone and freshman Connor Fox won 8-0 in #5 doubles.
In the Oxford match, the Dragons were unrelenting and swept both the singles and doubles matches, led by senior captain and #1 singles Thomas Fluent winning 6-2, 6-0, followed by Yim winning 6-1, 6-4 in #2 singles.
Singles #3 Durbin was victorious 6-0,6-1, and #4 Peter Husted won 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, the Dragons dominated the Wildcats with Fox and Skibicki winning 2-6, 7-5, 10-4, Foley and Stanfield winning 6-3, 6-2, DesLosRios and Beach winning 6-3, 6-1, Pavelich and Porkorny bageling 6-0, 6-0, and Roncone and Fox winning 8-0.
The Dragons will be busy during the first week of school, hosting two home matches at their refurbished LOHS tennis courts – Wednesday, September 8, against Davison, and Thursday, September 9, against Berkley. Both matches begin at 4 p.m.
