Thomas Caylor Byers, 75, of Lake Orion, formerly of Pontiac, passed away Sept. 14, 2023 at the age of 75.
Thomas was born June 18, 1948 in Munising, MI to William and Isabell Byers.
Thomas was the husband of Kathie for 53 years; father of James (Christine) Byers and Brian Byers; “Grandpa Tom” of David (Ashley) Szpakowski, Brecca (Alex) Youngert, P.J. Szpakowski, James Aaron Byers, Kearston Byers and Cross Byers; great grandpa of Ryder; brother in law of Ralph “Mark” Markwood, Terri (late Donald) Stills, late Walt Markwood, Judy Dougherty, Michelle (Dan) Amsbaugh and Ted Markwood; special cousin of Suzie (David) Lewis.
Tom served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. He retired from Kamax-DuPont as a cold header operator. Tom was a dedicated grandpa who enjoyed reading, bowling, drafting and racing muscle cars, especially his army green 1970 Nova. Many memories were made Up North, visiting waterfalls and at the family cabin in Wetmore. He was a talented woodworker and builder.
Tom was very active at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, even helping with Vacation Bible School.
A Memorial service is Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Orion Township. Luncheon will immediately follow in the gym.
Cremation services entrusted to Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home in Clarkston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lord’s Fund at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for community outreach.
