Dear LOCS Families-
The horrific events that occurred on Monday night on the Michigan State campus concern us all, as parents, as children and as citizens. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by Monday’s incident and the impact it has on those near and far.
The senseless act of violence hits too close to home, following the tragedy our Oxford neighbors experienced just 15 months ago. As in that situation, the Orion community will come together to support all who need or want someone to lean on. If your student is displaying any type of anxiety, please have them reach out to an adult at their school to provide them with resources for support.
The upcoming Parent University session at Lake Orion High School – “Navigating Student Stress, Anxiety and Depression” — will continue as scheduled on Thursday, February 16 from 6-8 p.m. Parents who are interested in attending can register at the online link.
The Oakland Community Health Network shared some mental health resources for those affected by tragedy.
As part of the LOCS communication resources, text messages are used for urgent notifications. LOCS parents, students and staff who are interested in receiving text messages from the district and the student’s school through School Messenger must opt in to receive them. If a parent/guardian is not receiving text messages from LOCS and is interested, please opt in by texting Y to the number 67587.
Our LOCS community, like many across the state of Michigan, spent a night facing another senseless act of violence. Today, like every day, our staff will provide a safe and supportive environment for learning.
Thank you and continue to hold your family close.
Sincerely,
Ben Kirby
LOCS Superintendent
