Surrounded by the love of his family, Thaddeus “Ted” Marcola, age 86 of Lake Orion, passed away on January 22, 2023.
Ted was born November 22, 1936 in Hamtramck, the son of the late Thaddeus and Maryann (Bonatowski) Marcola. Ted met the love of his life, Erika Seth in Bremerhaven Germany, while he was stationed overseas serving with the US Army. They married on February 2, 1963 and shared their earthly love for sixty years.
In 1964, Ted and Erika started their family then, after four children, moved to their long-standing home in Lake Orion.
Ted graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor’s degree and successfully ran and owned his business, TAM Accounting & Tax Service, for 40 years.
In addition to playing the saxophone in the Army band, after active-duty Ted also extended his talents to a wedding band. He was known to be quite the “wedding singer”. Ted was a big fan of all his Detroit teams. He also spent his days as an avid bowler, golfer, and was the biggest fan and spectator at his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. Ted was known for always sharing a good joke.
Adored by his family, Ted will be cherished and deeply missed by his children, Francy (Dave) Lemp, Julie (Larry) Rowe, Ted (Kelly) Marcola, and Crissy Obermok; Proud “Grampy” of 13 grandchildren, Nicholas, Dylan, McKayla, Brenden, Lawrence, Thaddeus, Gabriela, McKenzie, Trevor, Ethan, Connor, Jessica, Piper.
Ted is also survived by his sister Connie (the late Hal) Kaufman and brother Kevin (Suzanne) Marcola, brother-in-law of Renate (late Horst) Springer and father-in-law of Derek Obermok. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins in the US and Germany.
In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by siblings Dennis (the late Vera) Marcola, Ronald (Susan) Marcola, and Claudette (Jim) Tranchida.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 6, 2023 – 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Modetz Funeral Home, 100 E. Silverbell Rd. Orion.
A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 10 a.m. with visitation at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 715 N. Lapeer Rd., Lake Orion. Inurnment will take place immediately following mass at Guardian Angel Cemetery, Oakland.
