Oxford Twp. man uninjured, sheriff’s office says
Orion Twp. – One Orion Township teen is in critical condition and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision on Clarkston Road on Sunday night, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were called to Clarkston Road near Beach Drive at 9:20 p.m. Feb. 20 after the16-year-old driver of a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup truck heading west on Clarkston Road collided with a 2013 Ford F-350 pickup truck headed east.
The two vehicles collided in a no passing zone, and preliminary findings from the sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit suggest the Ford Ranger crossed over the centerline into the other lane, a sheriff’s office report stated.
Beach Drive is less than one-half mile east of Joslyn Road on a winding section of Clarkston Road.
Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard’s office said the16-year-old driver is hospitalized in critical condition. His passenger, a 17-year-old Orion Township resident, was treated for his injuries and was released from the hospital.
Police said it does not appear that either teen was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Ford F-350, a 21-year-old Oxford Township man, was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities suspect alcohol use by the 16-year-old driver. A blood sample was taken from the teen and the results of the analysis are pending, the incident report stated.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors for the Oxford Township driver.
The crash remains under investigation by the county Crash Reconstruction Unit. – J.N.
