The Lake Orion women’s varsity cross country team won the Anchor Bay Early Bird Invitational on Sept. 2, edging out Fraser High School to earn the top spot.
Lake Orion finished with a score of 37. Fraser finished second at 45, followed by New Baltimore Anchor Bay (48), Algonac (117), Port Huron Northern (144) and Warren Cousino (163).
Dragon freshman Addison Verlinden finished second overall with a time of 20:58.4 in the 5,000-meter race. Lake Orion senior Alexandra Boes finished third overall (21:06.1), sophomore Lauren Dumeah was ninth (22:34.6) and senior Kendall Osborne was tenth (22:43.2).
The Dragons next race is Saturday at the Averill Invite before hosting Jamboree 1 at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lake Orion High School. – Jim Newell
