Hot water heater wires spark fire

Deputies, along with Orion Township Fire Department, were dispatched to Sparrow Hill Drive at 8:28 p.m. May 17 for a fire at a home.

Deputies and firefighters secured the scene and located all occupants of the house, who were uninjured.

Firefighters extinguished the fire.

The investigation revealed that the fire appeared to have started from burning wires from the hot water heater.

Lock car doors to deter thieves

A thief broke into a vehicle at a home on the 3300 block of Towne Park Drive and stole a resident’s wallet from the center console sometime overnight on May 18.

A 31-year-old man told deputies at 6:28 a.m. May 18 that he returned home on May 17 at approximately 8:30 p.m. and parked his vehicle in his driveway.

Upon returning to the vehicle on May 18 at 6 a.m. he noticed someone had taken his wallet from the unlocked vehicle.

All information was turned over to detectives to continue the investigation.

Authorities investigate the death of Orion Twp. woman

Authorities are investigating the death of a 39-year-old Orion Township woman after the woman’s brother-in-law found her dead at her home.

Deputies were dispatched at 9:13 p.m. May 19 to assist the fire department at a home on the 2600 Block of Thornbrier Court when a man called and said that he had not heard from his sister-in- law for some time.

He went to her home, used his key and opened the door and found his sister-in- law deceased.

Detectives and an Investigator from the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and began their respective investigations.

The Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the deceased, and an autopsy has been scheduled.

Deputies arrest man for reckless discharge of a firearm

While on routine patrol at 4:25 a.m. May 21, deputies heard what they believed to be automatic gunfire around Joslyn and Scripps roads.

When searching the area, deputies spotted a Dodge Durango leaving the vicinity from where the shots originated. Deputies stopped the vehicle due to the registered owner having a suspended license.

When speaking with the driver, deputies saw a rifle in the backseat of the vehicle and the driver admitted to firing the weapons. He was taken into custody without incident.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies also found ammunition and other firearms and learned the man is not allowed to have firearms due his criminal past.

Detectives located cartridge shells and the case was presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

A warrant was authorized by of Magistrate Marie Soma of the 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills on the charges of one count Weapons/Firearms Possession by a Felon, one count Weapons/Ammunition Possession by Felon and one count of Driving While License Suspended (DWLS), second/subsequent offense.

The man was arraigned and given a $5,000 bond, with a 10 percent cash surety.

Thieves steal man’s money from unlocked car

Deputies responded to the 2700 block of Gemini at 8:30 a.m. May 22 when a 36-year-old man said he parked his vehicle in his driveway the night before and left it unlocked.

Upon returning in the morning, the victim said that someone entered his vehicle, got into his wallet and stole all his cash.

There was no damage to the vehicle.

All information was gathered and turned over to detectives.

Shoplifters get away with Michael’s merchandise

Deputies responded to Michael’s, 4824 S. Baldwin Rd., at 10:20 a.m. May 22 for a retail fraud complaint.

They spoke with the manager, who said that two suspects entered the store and selected items, cut the security tags and exited the store, making no attempt to pay for the merchandise.

Detectives will continue the investigation.

Cause of death unknown in death of Orion Twp. woman

Deputies and the Orion Township Fire Department responded to the 4000 block of Morgan Road at 1:32 a.m. May 23 on the report of a woman who was unconscious and not breathing.

Firefighters arrived and performed life-saving measures but to no avail.

Paramedics sent telemetry to McLaren Oakland Hospital where a physician pronounced the woman deceased.

Detectives and an investigator from the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office began their respective investigations.

The Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the 47-year-old resident.

Orion Twp. woman escapes after being held by ex-boyfriend

An Orion Township woman called police after her ex-boyfriend forced her into his car and held her against her will.

Deputies went to the 1000 block of Arbroak Way at 1:43 a.m. May 23 and met with the victim, who described a dating relationship that turned into a stalking incident earlier in the evening when the ex-boyfriend followed the victim home, forced her into his vehicle and held her against her will for a short time.

The 26-year-old St. Clair County man eventually pulled over and the 23-year-old woman escaped. The suspect fled the scene but was located in St. Clair County a short time later and arrested.

Detectives responded and collected physical evidence of the incident and the case is being reviewed by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

UPS delivers more than packages

Lake Orion police went to a home on North Shore after a UPS truck struck mailboxes in the front of the home at 3:50 p.m. May 17.

Oxford man told to go to court over Lake Orion police warrant

Lapeer County police notified the Lake Orion Police Dept. at 7:30 p.m. May 17 that they had arrested and detained a 22-year-old Oxford man who had an unspecified Lake Orion warrant.

The Lapeer police advised the man of the warrant and provided court information.

Public should call police with info on two hit-and-run crashes

Lake Orion police are investigating a hit-and-run traffic crash on Washington Street on May 18.

Residents reported that sometime overnight an unknown vehicle hit their vehicle.

Police are also investigating a hit-and-run that occurred around 7 a.m. May 18 on N. Park Boulevard (M-24) and W. Shadbolt Street. A red pickup truck in the right lane entered the left lane and hit the front bumper of a silver Jeep.

The pickup truck continued southbound on M-24 without stopping. There were no injuries reported.

Distracted driving causes several accidents in the village

There were minor injuries reported in a distracted driving traffic crash at Perry and Glenn streets at 1:19 p.m. May 18. One driver was looking at her GPS and did not see a stop sign and collided with another vehicle.

A Dodge Ram truck rear-ended another Ram truck at the Atwater and Broadway streets intersection at 10:52 a.m. May 18. No injuries were reported.

There was another distracted driving accident at 10:50 a.m. May 20 at N. Park Blvd. (M-24) and W. Flint Street. The driver of a Chevrolet Cruze heading southbound on M-24 in the right lane was not paying attention and drifted into the left lane, hitting a Ford Escape. No injuries were reported.

The driver of a Dodge Ram was at a stop sign at Axford Street and M-24 and started backing up but did not see the Honda Insight behind and backed into the vehicle. There were no injuries reported.

Boater arrested for operating while intoxicated after noise complaint

Lake Orion police responded to a noise complaint about excessive noise coming from a boat near the Bellevue Avenue bridge at 11:29 p.m. May 18.

A 22-year-old Washington Township man was arrested for operating a boat while intoxicated.

The man was given a breathalyzer and had a blood alcohol content of .212. A BAC of .08 is considered legally drunk in Michigan.
