Just Serve is a smart-phone app that connects volunteers with charities and civic organizations.
Orion Township Supervisor Chris Barnett wants residents and organizations to download the free, faith-based service.
“No community has more civic pride and volunteer spirit than Orion,” said Barnett. “The Just Serve app is a perfect way to build on that. I can’t wait to see how many of our residents and organizations get on board. There’s no limit to what we can accomplish.”
The app works two ways. Charities input the volunteer positions they are looking to fill and residents can view the charities that need help and sign up directly through the app. The type of volunteers, time slots and applicable age groups will be specified on the app.
“Our simple aim is to unite charities with people who have a heart to serve,” said Joe Kent, Lake Orion business owner and local spokesperson for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
LDS Church is the creator of the nationwide, humanitarian and inter-faith initiative, Just Serve.
“Many people want to be volunteers. They just can use a little help in finding the organizations who need them,” said Kent, also explaining that the collaboration is confidential.
