Maybe too many things are just not going my way lately, but I’m getting upset more often, quicker and it’s taking longer to get over.
Too, it could be my aging. However, I really believe my rising temper has more to do with this extensive political season.
I spent a lifetime writing news — maybe not national — but the writing has made me news conscious on all levels.
So, this anger (initiated by the GOP and Dems) has expanded to include state legislative non-action, the United Nations, global warming people vs. normal thinkers, Detroit Tiger pitching, batting and managing, service taxes, governmental spending and Cheerios. Yep, you read that right, Cheerios, and this is my partial list.
Nationally, you (not me or we) have three people running for the office of president of the United States whose total qualifications would leave a thimble half-full.
The Dems have a 46-year-old out there reading closet-written speeches, but who hasn’t lived long enough to know enough qualified people to fill the positions left open by the election, let alone enough aging to give him the experience and knowledge to run our country.
Then (you, I want nothing to do with her) have Hillary, a person who believes she’s earned the office of president. Did staying with a wayward husband entitle her to the most powerful position in the world? Does leaving Arkansas for NY make you worldly wise? Did her failed attempt to get a national health program passed make her believe she can bring the entire country together on anything?
What gives her that presidential seal of approval: her wit, her laugh, her temper — what?
And, the GOP could nominate no one better than a Dem-leaning man to head their ticket. Here’s some of his non-GOP stands: open borders for immigrants, he wants to suspend the federal gas tax for the summer and take money from other funds to make up the difference and he wants to improve health coverages, guarantee some home loans and rewrite the tax code. That ain’t going to happen!
In our state, the legislature took the entire 2007 year to replace the Single Business Tax, only to find it increased taxes on 44,761 businesses, some by as much as 1,300 percent. Our leader, Ms. Granholm said she’d favor any tax change as long as it didn’t reduce income. Lord help us if they ever actually slimmed down government in Lansing, and made it efficient.
From before spring training season to opening day we were hit with a deluge of optimism about our Detroit Tigers, only to find we were again victims of too much hype. They recently slammed theYankees, then swooned to the Twins and Red Sox.
Their bats and pitchers? arms seem to go on vacation at the same time managment failes its responsibility. Is their trouble the pitching coach? Is it a failure of the overly rich, complacent players? It sure isn’t the fans. They support them Tigerly.
Do the players need hearing aids so they can better understand their mumbling manager? Is the Tiger management getting advice from the Detroit Lions general manager?
John Bolton was the U. S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations. He said Paul Volcker was hired to investigate and propose reforms. He found the oil-for-food scandal was not unique. He urged very strongly to get the U.N. Budget Committee to vote on an outside audit of U.N. programs.
The Committee voted two-to-one against it. Bolton said, ‘This tells you pretty much everything you need to know about how the U.N. operates.? The nations voting against the audit contribute just 10 percent to the U.N. operation.
Now, a huge new addition is being built for U.N. operations and you know who the by-far largest contributor is? Right! US (as in you and me, taxpaying Americans and not the United States).
In a cereal aisle recently, a Cheerio box reminded me I hadn’t had any in years. Here’s a cereal made for adults to teething infants. Spread them on little ones? tray and watch ’em clinch the Cheerios and crunch ’em. Nowadays the word cholesterol on the box is bigger than the name Cheerios. While trying to get rid of some to ma’dog Shayna she saw the word and left the room.
Send me an anger container and I’ll fill it.
It must be me, it can’t be just the news coverage
