The Lake Orion High School wrestling team got its first district title in six years, topping two Rochester high schools on Feb. 15.
The Dragons beat Rochester 41-17 in the semi-finals and then took out Adams 38-23 in the finals.
The district win sets up a meeting with Davison in the regionals. Davison beat OAA I champion Clarkston in their district final.
The last time LO advanced to regionals (in 2000) they were beaten by Davison, the eventual state champions.
That match will begin at Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Waterford Kettering, with the winner taking on the Walled Lake Northern/Kettering winner for a trip to the state quarterfinals in Battle Creek.
On Feb. 18, the Dragons traveled to Walled Lake Western for individual district competition.
The top four finishers in each weight class qualified for the regional competition at Davison, with the hopes of qualifying for the state tournament.
LO’s Spenser Grzadzinski won the title at 103 pounds, and seven other Dragon wrestlers made it through to regionals.
