Wolves win first round

When West Bloomfield scored the first goal against Clarkston in the MHSAA Pre-Regional game last Friday – the Wolves took action.
“They poked the bear a little bit,” said Brian Kaminskas, Clarkston Boys Varsity A Lacrosse head coach. “Good for West Bloomfield. They had the shot and they took it. It woke us up.”
“It was on defense,” added junior Evan Kneisel about his end of the field. “We said we needed to communicate better. We need to get our zone.”
Once the Wolves were woken up, they went on a 14-1 run during the first half of the game.
The lead would continue as the boys won the first round, 19-3.
“It was a good first round,” said Kaminskas. “We wanted to come out and make a statement so Brighton was well aware we are ready for them. We will bring everything we have and start rolling like we did last year.”
Seniors Travis Craft, Kevin Horton and Jordan Kincaid led the team with three goals a piece. Seniors Sam Moore, Kevin O’Grady and sophomore Reid Kaminski added two goals each.
O’Grady and Horton also assisted on three goals each during the game.
“Our standouts were our goalies, Adam Gohl and Jack Hendricks,” Kaminskas added. ‘Both had a good game with three goals made between the two of them. Both of them played very well. Our offense gets a lot of attention – it’s the goal scoring, but defense did a great job. We worked this week on making sure to keep things contained and working from the inside out. They did a really nice job of that.”
The boys saw Brighton on Tuesday in the semi-finals and went in with a 19-3 record.
“We are going to give it our all as we come out for playoffs,” said Kneisel. “We had a very bad clearing this game. We are going to work on it and communication.”
The winner moves on to play the winner of the Brother Rice/Midland Dow game on Friday, 7 p.m. at West Bloomfield High School.
