It’s a bonding that dental patients can smile about when two established Lake Orion dentists merge their practices next month.

Dr. Joseph Mastromatteo is moving his practice into the office of Dr. Rocco Ciccone on Aug. 12.

“After sharing over 61 years of Dental Health services with the families of Lake Orion, Oxford and the surrounding areas with our individual practices, we are proud to announce the merger of Georgetown Dentistry and Joseph Mastromatteo D.D.S. with Rocco Ciccone M.S., D.D.S.,” Ciccone and Mastromatteo said. “Our combined practices will continue to strive to give our patients the highest levels of gentle, personal, professional care possible.”

Mastromatteo said the building that houses his office is under new ownership, so, with the uncertain future of the property, he decided it was time to for a change.

That, and he and Ciccone have been friends and colleagues for more than 20 years.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to merge with Dr. Ciccone, who is a very fine dentist,” Mastromatteo said. “I’ve known him for decades. We also belong to the same dental organization for further dental enhancement knowledge.”

“We’ve been chatting about it for awhile and everything just aligned. It was the right time,” Ciccone said. “It was the right decision for him, his staff, for us. It was just the right idea.”

Dr. Ciccone has been practicing in Lake Orion since 1998 and has been in his current location since 2007. He is a graduate of the University of Detroit Dental School and began practicing dentistry in 1986.

Mastromatteo, a graduate of the Georgetown School of Dentistry, has been practicing dentistry in Lake Orion since 1979 but working since 1960. Together, Ciccone and Mastromatteo have more than 90 years dental experience.

Ciccone said patients of both practices can be assured – in and out of the dental chair – that they will not only receive the same expert level of care that they have known, but can expect greater benefits after the merger.

“Absolutely, the quality of care will not change. I can honestly say, if you like your dentist you can keep your dentist,” Ciccone said. “It’s actually going to be a better situation because we’re going to be able to offer expanded hours, that’s the biggest thing.”

The two dentists will also merge staff – the hygienists and assistants – so patients from each practice will see the caring faces they know, as well as new personnel to assist them.

“This should be an extremely smooth transition…it’s just a matter getting the equipment physically moved from one place to another,” Ciccone said.

Ciccone and Mastromatteo offer complete general dentistry services with state-of-the-art equipment. The doctors are up-to-date on the newest, most advanced technologies being developed in the dental field and the staff receives continuing education to ensure that patients receive the highest-quality care.

With the merging of the dental minds, patients can also expect expanded services: expanded times for patients to schedule appointments, including Saturdays. Mastromatteo offers Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) treatment and dental sleep apnea treatment.

“Nitrous oxide will be still be available for all patients, if needed,” Mastromatteo said. “That’s a big thing. A lot of people have a fear of coming to the dentist.”

Our services provided include: teeth whitening, crowns, preventative care, periodontal exams, oral cancer screening, implant restoration and cosmetic dentistry.

Mastromatteo said that he and his staff are looking forward to joining Ciccone and his staff.

“I am very excited about the opportunity of sharing knowledge and moving forward in all phases of general dentistry,” Mastromatteo said. “My patients have been sent a letter announcing this merging and its location and they are excited about it also.”

“We always do lunch and talk shop,” Ciccone said. “I’m excited. It’s going to be great just to have him here and it will be easier to bounce ideas off of him. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Dr. Ciccone’s and Dr. Mastromatteo’s office is located at 792 S. Lapeer Rd. in the Buckhorn Plaza.

Patients can contact Ciccone’s office at 248-693-8366. Mastromatteo’s office number, 248-693-1331, is being transferred over to the new office so patients can still call that number, Mastromatteo said.

  1. Dr. Mastromatteo was our family dentist from the time he opened his practice until we moved out of state in 1990. I can honestly say that his expert level of care is second to none. He is one in a million!
