The Road Commission for Oakland County was out checking drains along M-24 on Monday, after a Saturday rainstorm caused the northbound lanes to flood.
Craig Bryson, public information officer for the RCOC, said drains were not believed to be the cause of the flooding on July 16, but the RCOC was going to check them out anyway.
The problem occurred in the lanes of northbound M-24, just south of Scripps Road.
Bryson said traffic was diverted from the northbound lanes over to one of the southbound lanes on M-24.
‘It was extremely heavy rain in a very short period of time,? Bryson said. ‘It was just too much water. The retention basin on the east side (of M-24) overflowed onto the roadway.?
Bryson said the roadway was cleared of water and the northbound lanes reopened three hours after the initial flooding occurred.
‘There were six other areas across Oakland County that were affected like this on Saturday, including Joslyn Road at Brown Road, and a spot on Silverbell Road,? he said.
