Ortonville- The village council has a new face– sort of.
The village council unanimously approved a motion appointing Larry Hayden as its newest member at their meeting Sept. 26.
‘It’s exciting to be able to work in the community,? Hayden said following the vote.
Hayden fills a seat left vacant after Nancy Peters resigned for personal reasons in July. The term is up in 2006, at which time an election will be held for the position.
Hayden is not entirely new to the council. He served on the village council from 1992 to 1996, when he stepped down at the end of his term because his job required a lot of travel and he didn’t feel it was fair to the village.
His job has since changed. Hayden, 46, works as a systems administrator for Continental Teves in Auburn Hills and has a degree in information technology.
During his first stint on the council, Hayden helped in getting sidewalks for the south side of Mill Street. He believes the village still has some work to do in that area and would like to see them improved.
The 16-year village resident worked on the Creekfest committee earlier this year and is now on the economic restructuring committee for the Main Street program, the mission of which is to maximize economic potential within the context of historic preservation.
‘Being on the council is public service and we have to keep in mind that the money we are handling belongs to the people in the community,? said Hayden, who has been married to Robin for 20 years and has two sons, Alex, 19 and Logan, 15. ‘Our job should be to spend that money wisely and provide the services needed by the community. I think there is a lot of exicting things going on, especially with the Main Street designation. With their assistance we can realize the goals the village has had.?
