At the virtual Memorial Day Ceremony on May 12, Steve Hauxwell, Commander of American Legion Post 233, Lake Orion, presented Jim Hubbard, Commander of VFW Post 334 with the Lake Orion Police Veteran of the Year Award.

Each year, the Lake Orion Police Department selects a Veteran of the Year from local Oakland County veterans each year. The LOPD announces the winner at the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Orion Veterans Memorial. The reason for the selection, the Lake Orion Police Department want’s to insure the community does not forget the veterans who have made it possible to hold community actives during the year, with the Veteran of the Year leading the parades or being a key note speaker at an event.

This year all events have been canceled due to Covid-19 except for the annual Lake Orion Lighted Christmas Parade (which is expected to take place in December).

Hubbard’s term is from Memorial day 2020 to the Memorial day 2021. However, there is talk that his term could be extended one year due to Covid-19 but a decision will not be made until Winter 2021.
