A pair of ceremonies will help to celebrate Veterans Day across Orion this Sunday (Nov. 11).
At 1 p.m. the Veterans Memorial (on the corner of M-24 and Odanah) will host a special dedication of the memorial’s granite monuments.
The Marine Color Guard, from the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly will also be in attendance at the ceremony, which is open to the public.
At 2 p.m. the Orion Township Public Library will hold special patriotic festivities.
A drawing will be held for a 3-by-5 foot American flag, once flown over the Capitol in Washington D.C. and donated by Congressman Joe Knollenberg. The flag comes with a certificate of authenticity.
That drawing will follow a busy day of events that includes warm beverages, the National Anthem as sung by Monica Crup and a brief presentation on the history of the U.S. flag by Junior Vice Commander Larry Pawley from the American Legion Post 233 in Lake Orion.
Gift certificates to C.J.’s Village Cafe will be given to the oldest and youngest veterans in attendance and the classic movie ‘Mr. Roberts? will be shown as well (with popcorn).
