Township board approves new acting library director

A familiar face is taking up a new post at the Independence Township Library.
During the Oct. 18 regular meeting, the Independence Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously for Patience Beer to be the library’s new acting director.
Beer is replacing Mollie Lynch, whose employment was terminated on Sept. 19.
According to Supervisor Dave Wagner, the decision to release Lynch was not sudden.
‘This was a management decision based on her performance,? he stated. ‘It had been coming for years.?
Beer is a 15-year employee of the library and previously worked as Head of Adult Services. She was scheduled to retire on Oct. 19, the day she took over as acting director.
As part of their motion, the board approved giving Beer the previous director’s full pay, around $60,000.
‘I think its absolutely appropriate that we do that in this circumstance,? said Dan Travis in reference to Beer’s appointment and pay.
Beer will hold the position for six months while township officials interview for a full-time director.
