Swinging into action

After a year and a half break, the tennis team is back, playing in their first spring season.
‘Playing in the fall, the team didn’t have to begin the season in the wet and coldness of the beginning of spring,? said Clarkston coach Craig Judd.
The weather didn’t effect their first game against Troy-Athens last Wednesday. The team beat Athens, 7-1.
‘They did really good,? said Judd. ‘They did fine. They closed points out really well, and got the job done. The fourth set of doubles was competitive.?
All of the singles players won their sets; junior Nicole Janek (6-1, 6-0), senior Alyssa Lucas, (6-1, 6-0), freshman Kristina Lucas (6-0, 6-0) and senior Blair McCarty (6-1, 6-0)
In the doubles, three teams won their matches. Seniors Kate Cooley and Kelli McKay (6-4, 6-2);
junior Stephanie Kincaid and freshman Emilia Allen (6-1, 6-1); and freshmen Alexis Egler and Victoria Sova (6-2, 6-2).
Sophomore Erica Zeetner and freshman Chelsea Hundzinski lost their match to Troy-Athens.
‘West Bloomfield is really tough. It is one of our biggest matches,? said Judd. ‘They are really great competition. Hopefully we will have a nice day.
‘Our league matches start this week. We will see tougher teams. We look forward to a competitive season.?
The varsity team competed at Lahser on Tuesday.
They will host West Bloomfield on Thursday at 4 p.m, followed by another match next Tuesday at Seaholm High School at 4 p.m.
