Swimmers wade into OAA’s

Despite a 1-7 record this season in dual meets, the boys swim team is expected to keep improving at the Oakland Activities Association meet on Thursday at Lake Orion.
‘We’re at the bottom in dual meets,? coach Kenwyn Chock said.
‘But I don’t think that will be at the OAA meet.
‘It seems like every time we go out, they improve.
‘If I had a penny for the seconds these guys have dropped, I would be rich,? Chock said.
Both Bobby Nelson and Greg Dedow will be looking to make the qualifying time for the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle respectively.
Dedow took 17th at the Oakland County meet two weeks ago in the Dragons? home pool, swimming a 5:06.12, almost two seconds faster than his qualifying time.
Nelson swam a 2:09.69 at the county meet and took 14th place overall. Earlier this season, Nelson set the school record in the very same event at 2:08.39, breaking a four-year-old mark.
‘I’m excited about the OAA’s because it really gives them an opportunity to shine,? Chock said.
The Wolves? goal is to get as many swimmers as they can into medal contention, which is for the top-eight finishers in each event.
In their final dual meet on Feb. 13., a makeup date against Rochester Adams, the boys fell 102-82 to the Highlanders.
Clarkston’s 200-yard medley relay team (1:56.64) took first place in the night’s opening event. Phil Voorheis (1:58.71), Tony Perrino (2:05.29) and Mike Inch (2:13.36) finished in second, third and fourth in the next event, the 200-yard freestyle.
Adam Curry (24.81) took first place in the 50-yard freestyle and Jacob Rush (25.17) was third.
Ryan Welch (179.92) and Jordan Zendejas (179.17) were first and second in diving.
The Wolves? 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:39.51) took first place.
Nelson (1:01.91) took second in the 100-yard backstroke and Voorheis (1:13.14) was third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
