Swimmers drop two against Brandon, Stoney Creek

The varsity swimmers suffered two defeats this past week at the hands of Brandon and Rochester Stoney Creek.
On Thursday, Sept. 22, Stoney Creek left the pool at Oxford High School with a 124-62 victory.
‘Stoney Creek is a very good team and I knew the score would not end in our favor. However, we swam really well and received two more state cuts,? varsity swim coach Jackie Rank said.
Even in the loss, the Wildcats still managed to finish first in four events and set two school records.
Freshman Taylor Curtis finished first in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:03.82, and also finished in the top spot in the 100 Butterfly with a personal best time of 1:07.29.
Sophomore Haley Kornburger established a school record and qualified for the state meet with her first place time of 53.66 in the 100 Freestyle.
She also finished first in the 50 Freestyle (24.63).
The 400 Freestyle Relay team of Curtis, senior captain Amanda delaPaz, senior captain Claire Patrell and Kornburger set a school record and qualified for the state meet with a time of 3:53.49. They finished second in the event.
On Tuesday, Sept. 20, Brandon outlasted the Wildcats 97-89 in a meet that was close throughout.
Kornburger set two school records (200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle) during that meet, and was a part of the 400 relay team which set a school record.
delaPaz, Patrell and Curtis were also part of the first place 400 Freestyle Relay team (3:56.53).
Kornburger also qualified for states in the 200 and 500 Freestyle.
Some notable performances on the night include the 200 medley relay team of Kornburger, junior Caitlyn Wroblewski, Curtis and freshman Marissa Johnson that finished first with a time of 2:09.86.
Freshman Sydney Liverance finished second in the 200 Individual Medley (2:45.77), while fellow freshman Maura Green finished second in diving with a total of 150.10 points.
Curtis came in first in the 50 Freestyle, the 100 Butterfly and was part of the 400 Freestyle Relay team that finished in first. delaPaz finished in second during the 100 Freestyle (1:01.16) and sophomore Elizabeth Wilkins won the 100 Breaststroke (1:21.52).
Up next for the Wildcats is the Oakland County Swim and Dive championships at Lake Orion High School on Saturday, Oct. 1.
Kornburger and Curtis will be swimming individual events and the Wildcats will be bringing one relay team for each event.
