If you’re looking for a support group that caters to mothers of all seasons and doesn’t just focus on the kids? needs, then it’s time for you to join the new Oxford Chapter of Mothers and More.
This past March, Oxford residents Sandra Martin, Colleen Turley and Lisa Hunter decided to start an Oxford Chapter of the national organization, and they’re looking for more members.
Mothers and More is a non-profit group ‘dedicated to improving the lives of mothers through support, education and advocacy.?
They address mothers? needs as individuals of society and promote the value of all the work they do.
Martin and Turley attended a meeting in another city and decided it was a group that residents of Oxford, Addison, Lake Orion and Brandon Township needed to experience.
‘It was supportive, encouraging? like you walked out after getting a warm hug,? Martin said.
When you become a member of Mothers and More (the ‘more? means mothers of all ages, grandmothers and even dads, are allowed) you are given opportunities to connect with local and national members and have numerous fun events to partake in.
For instance, instead of just meeting at parks to let the children play, Mothers and More groups initiate Mom’s Night Out, Couple’s Night Out and hobby-based focus groups for its members.
‘It’s social, it’s support, it’s advocacy, it’s guidance ? it’s just fun,? said Hunter.
They even have an At Your Service program for members who, for example, may need help getting dinner ready while their husband is out of town, or can’t go grocery shopping because of a sick child.
Another member would step up to the plate and cook them dinner or go to the store for them.
‘We know there are lots of moms out there who would benefit from this,? Martin said.
The Oxford Chapter of Mothers and More will hold an Open House on Tuesday, May 20 at the Oxford Public Library (530 Pontiac Rd.) from 6:30-8:30. Gift bags, raffles and other fun events are planned.
