Ortonville-After the smoke cleared at the Street Machine Super Show, the result was clear.
The Ortonville Downtown Development Authority’s third annual show Aug. 7 was a winner.
‘The show was excellent,? said Dave Bonner, event organizer. ‘We had a lot of comments on how high-end everything was.?
Bonner noted that the Best of Show winners alone had vehicles totalling about $3 million in worth. He was also pleased with the weather and praised the work of DDA volunteers, saying the show was well-organized and ran very smooth.
Dan Cole, a Goodrich resident who won first place in the show’s motorcycle category with a ?51 Harley Davidson, was impressed with the show’s high-quality. Participants, not spectators, voted for the show winners and Cole appreciated that.
‘When participants vote, they’re from the old school. They’re gearheads and realize what it takes to build a car.?
Bob Fulkerson was one of 12 people to win a ‘Best of Show? plaque with his ?57 Chevy. He described the show as ‘near perfect,? and said, ‘For a show that’s only been there three years, they’ve got it together better than some of these shows that have been going on forever. I think it shows with the caliber of cars they draw.?
He cited the nitro-driven remote control cars and burn-out contest as something ‘a little extra? that is not seen anywhere else
Ken Goodrich of Ortonville participated in the burn-out contest with his ?71 Camaro Z-28, with which he also won a second place trophy in the Pro-Street category.
‘I’m into the muscle cars, but I love them all,? said Goodrich. ‘I plan to participate next year.?
