Paul Zelenak has, in fact, signed on to become the next village manager of Lake Orion, and said his first day on the job will be on or around April 9.
The village council approved a contract agreement with Zelenak during their meeting on Monday night.
The Springfield Township resident, and current director of community development in Garden City, signed the agreement last night.
Zelenak met with Council President Rob Reetz to iron out contract details last week.
‘It took us about 20 minutes,? Reetz said. ‘He had some ideas that could be very beneficial for the village. I was very impressed and I’m looking forward to working with him.?
Zelenak will be paid a starting annual salary of $65,000, which according to the council, will first be up for a raise in late June of 2009.
Some of the contract discussion at Monday’s meeting centered around Zelenak teaching a Michigan assessing class, which he would do during up to three of his vacation days in a given year.
Council approved an amendment to the agreement to allow Zelenak to teach the classes, but he must first bring those items forward to a council meeting for specific approval.
Zelenak is a former village manager in Ortonville and spent 13 years in various capacities in Rochester Hills.
