Ortonville- About 10,000 people turned out for Septemberfest 2005.
Brandon Recreation Director Fred Waybrant called the event a success and said he was impressed with the volunteers, quality of the entertainment, and his staff and Department of Public Works employees.
‘It was probably the best organized Septemberfest ever and turnout was up there with the top years,? Waybrant said. ‘We had more vendors, which brought more people.?
He noted there were 144 vendors this year, up from 90 last year. Arts and crafts vendors stretched down Mill Street to Cedar Street and were also found on Pond Street and at Crossman Park.
A wide variety of food was available, with no duplication by vendors. Good weather helped to keep many people around until vendors started taking booths down at 5 p.m.
‘We looked at everything and ate everywhere,? said Lee Jacobs, a Brandon Township resident. ‘The weather was great and we had fun with our grandkids.?
Clarkston resident Rose Thompson also brought her grandson.
‘I liked seeing him have fun,? she said. ‘The music was nice, there was a good variety of food, and it was easy to get around and find things.?
About 200 people stayed for the street dance, which began at 5:30 p.m. with country music by Murphy’s Law and continued with Terrie Lea & The Mustangs from 8-9:30 p.m.
Waybrant has already had calls from people wanting to book space for Septemberfest 2006. The recreation department will take registration forms now, but will not accept money for spaces until January.
