Senior center needs more parking

With increased attendance has come more headaches for the Orion Senior Center, at least where available parking is concerned.
But those headaches could be cured, if the Orion Township Board of Trustees agrees to pay the cost for additional parking spaces to be constructed.
On Feb. 27, the Lake Orion Village Council gave their blessing to the project, and agreed to have Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel work with the township on development, review and approval of the plans, with the total cost to be paid by the township.
Director Lisa Sokol recently appealed to council to approve a request to allow the construction of additional parking spaces on the west side of Anderson.
The parking would be ‘head-in,? adjacent to the center. Sokol said there is over 130 feet along the existing parking lot, and about 20 feet from the edge of the sidewalk to the edge of the pavement.
This area could accommodate 11-12 spaces.
‘We’re often contacting the (Lake Orion Police Department) to alert them of parking on the street,? Sokol said. ‘We are especially really busy on Thursday nights, with Bingo.?
The center currently only has 15 parking spaces available, which also accommodate Union Church.
Sokol said she will contact the township to have them draw up necessary plans for review and possible approval.
