Santorum to speak for center

Birth Choice Pregnancy Resource Center of Independence Township welcomes Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum to its fund raiser dinner, 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug, 9, Palazzo Gande, 54660 Van Dyke Avenue in Shelby Township.
“We know Sen. Santorum is a very strong prolife advocate,” said Brenda Savage, executive director. “We’ve sought him out as speaker for a long time. When he withdrew from his presidential campaign, he decided to speak for us.”
The center has a new location, 5770 S. Main Street. They moved there from its Sashabaw Road location after a clinic offering abortion services, with which they shared a building, closed late last year.
The new place also charges less rent.
“It’s less than half of what we paid before,” Savage said. “We’re thriving here, working to promote life, prevent abortion, and help build stronger families.”
The center offers pre-natal education, counseling, parenting classes, referrals for insurance, physician, maternity home, and adoption, pregnancy tests, ultra sound machine, and clothing and supplies.
“We have a large Spanish-speaking population here, so we offer English classes and work with the Mexican consulate in Detroit to help with documentation,” Savage said. “Making families stronger makes the community stronger.”
Their goal is to help families become stable and independent, she said.
“We do a lot of great things, but it’s a struggle financially,” she said. “We’re entirely dependent on donations.”
Dinner and private reception with Santorum is $125; Dinner only, $75, 6:45 p.m.
