Reward offered in arson case

The Michigan Arson Prevention Committee is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest or conviction in a car arson.
Early in the morning of July 30, officers from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Independence Township substation responded to a vehicle fire call at a Sashabaw Road residence.
According to the police report, the fire was extinguished by the resident with a garden house. Apparently, a passerby noticed the car on fire around 6:15 a.m. and pounded on the residence door to alert the home owner.
The car is owned by the resident’s son who was away for the night.
Art Schrah, fire investigator for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed the fire was ruled an arson, but said the investigation remains open.
Anyone with information regarding the arson should call 248-858-5454.
