Resident says 5 years long enough to wait for house to be fixed up

Bill Deeg of Park Island is tired of looking at an abandoned house at South Broadway/Pelton’s Pointe. He told Lake Orion Village Council members on Sept. 8 it was an eyesore.
“The village hasn’t acted on getting it fixed up or demolished,” he added.
According to Deeg, he was informed by LO Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel that she was going to work with the village’s ordinance officer and LO Police Chief Jerry Narsh to solve the problems at 224 South Broadway.
“I was led to believe the owner would clean it up. Then one of the owners said the property had been sold and the new owner would have all the property fixed up,” he added.
In August Van Tassel met with Shelvy Howell of Winter-Howell Company, one of the new owners of the properties on Pelton’s Pointe. She asked him to get rid of all the weeds and vegetation that surrounded the structure and repaint and repair the structure. The vegetation and weeds were removed.
Howell told Van Tassel the building was in too bad of shape and he would be demolishing it.
“I was told by the owners until they got PUD (Planned Unit Development) approval, they wouldn’t do anything. If they got approval, they would tear it down. If they didn’t they would fix it up,” Deeg said.
According to Van Tassel, the owners recently took out an application for a demolition permit. She was told they were getting bids on taking the structure down.
“I’ve been waiting for five years to see something happen. I’m not going to wait any longer,” Deeg said.
“This property is under scrutiny,” Narsh said. “The way our ordinances are written, you have to allow them reasonable time (to take care of problems).
