RCOC plans improvements at Baldwin/Brown intersection

Motorists who find the intersection of Baldwin and Brown Roads to be a pain could soon find some relief.
Orion Township Supervisor Jerry Dywasuk said a recent meeting with the Road Commission for Oakland County resulted in a promise for improvements in the near future.
‘The intersection of Brown and Baldwin is one of the highest accident areas,? said Dywasuk.
The RCOC has proposed closing off the second entrance to the Baldwin Commons shopping center near Kohl’s and moving the light to the entrance by Old Navy, which would create a longer stacking lane for the light to turn at Brown Road.
Another proposal is to make the two lanes coming off of Brown Road onto Baldwin no turn on red lanes. Dywasuk said the problem is that people coming off Brown in the far right lane drive straight across to turn on Baldwin, cutting off cars in the left lane that have the right-of-way.
‘They’ve also agreed to change the timing of the lights,? Dywasuk said. ‘We’ve had a lot of meetings on this.?
Dywasuk said it will be up to the Michigan Department of Transportation to make more adequate the signage on I-75 telling motorists wishing to go to Great Lakes Crossing to use the Joslyn Road exit.
Dywasuk said the improvements might not be done this construction season but will be coming soon. He said something that should be done this season is the roundabout at Indianwood, Baldwin and Coats Roads.
‘That’s going to cost about $800,000,? he said. ‘The township will be responsible for lighting and landscaping.?
