Sisters Alexus Champion and Alyssa Champion joined veterans all over the area this weekend, distributing poppies for Poppy Days.
‘It’s very hard work,? said Alyssa, junior miss poppy, representing girls 6-12 years old. ‘It’s very nice to help veterans and other people in need.?
‘We help veterans? families, give back, and serve my country,? said Alexus, senior miss poppy, representing girls 13-18 years old. ‘It gives me a warm feeling.?
The girls have been members of Chief Pontiac 377 American Legion Junior Auxiliary all their lives, signed up by their mother, Kimberly Champion, in honor of her father, Charles Yates Jr., who served during World War II.
‘It’s fun to do,? Alexus said. ‘We see lots of people, makes friends, help veterans.?
‘It’s a good thing, to help other people when they’re in need,? Alyssa said.
