A 36-year-old Macomb County man being pulled in a tube was run over by a pontoon boat on Lake Orion on July 2.
The accident occurred about 2:45 p.m., according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division. The man was riding in a tube that was being pulled by a speedboat, and accidentally fell into the water.
After falling into the water, the man was run over by the pontoon boat, being operated by a 24-year-old Lake Orion man near the Dollar Bay area of the lake.
The Macomb County man suffered internal injuries, and was transported to POH Medical Center. OCSD Marine Division Sgt. Dan Toth said the man was conscious on July 4, and able to make a statement to them regarding the accident.
‘His condition has improved,? Toth said. ‘But he does have some serious injuries.?
Toth said the OCSD is continuing its investigation and does not know at this time if any charges will be filed in the incident.
‘We do expect there will be some violation,? he said. ‘The law does require each operator to be responsible and maintain due care and caution at all times.?
Toth said the accident was an example of why people need to use extra caution during busy times on the lake.
‘There’s a lot of competition for the water on the weekend and this is an example of that,? he said.
‘But alcohol does not appear to have been a contributing factor in this.?
