If all goes as planned and the McLaren Health Care Village on Sashabaw Road is built, thousands of employees would go there to work.
One neighborhood association wants them to avoid the commute and move here to stay.
‘We want them to move here ? this is a great place,? said Donna McDonald, sales associate with ReMax Encore.
‘We’re the perfect place for them,? said Steve Pawlak, general manager of Oakhurst Golf & Country Club.
The Oakhurst gated community off Clintonville Road offers homes in a wide range of prices. Residents can also become members of the Oakhurst Golf & Country club, and participate in several family-oriented recreation programs, McDonald said.
‘It’s a beautiful club,? she said. ‘We have something for everyone.?
McLaren is planning a 76-acre Health Care Village at Sashabaw Road and I-75. If fully developed, it would include medical offices, research facilities, and a 300-bed hospital.
‘It can’t get here soon enough,? Pawlak said.
‘Local business, real estate, and construction would benefit from this project.?
Awaiting final approval by Independence Township, it could break ground in May. McLaren estimates employment at more than 3,000.
‘This area needs those jobs,? said Susan Madole, director of membership sales for Oakhurst.
Oakhurst is inviting Clarkston area realtors to a breakfast meeting with Kevin Tompkins, vice president of marketing for McLaren Health Care Corporation.
Tompkins will give a presentation and answer questions about what the project would mean for the area’s real estate market.
The idea for the meeting came when Madole met Tompkins at a Lighthouse fund raiser.
‘I invited him to come speak, to introduce him to the area,? she said.
Communication between McLaren and the community is an important part of the project’s development, Tompkins said.
‘It’s a big part ? building understanding of what we want to do,? he said. ‘Education is very important.?
The meeting of up to 150 realtors is planned for 7:30 a.m., March 21, at the Oakhurst clubhouse. RSVP by March 15 by calling Oakhurst at 248-391-3300.
