McLaren plans still a go

McLaren Health Care System recently acquired the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, but officials say the hospital system is still committed to expanding in Independence Township.
‘If anything, it will improve on our efforts to get the approval for the Clarkston hospital,? said Kevin Tompkins, McLaren’s vice president of marketing. ‘It will have positive effects.?
McLaren wants to build a $303 million, 300-bed hospital in the McLaren Health Care Village on Sashabaw Road at Bow Pointe Drive.
Michigan’s Department of Community Health denied their request for a Certificate of Need (CON) to transfer 200 beds from Pontiac to Independence Township.
Tompkins said McLaren is continuing to work to get approval for the hospital through the state legislatiure, and regulatory and administrative route.
