Natalie McCormick scored three goals in the first half as Goodrich’s girls soccer team defeated Mt. Morris 7-2 in a May 19 game.
The win improved Goodrich’s record to 11-5 overall and 10-4 in Genesee Area Conference Red Division play, one game behind Lake Fenton.
The Martians also received offensive contributions from Amanda Bishop, who scored two goals (one in the first half and one in the second) and Meredith Mayberry, who scored two goals in the second half.
Hayley Smith and McCormick combined to shut down Mt. Morris in goal.
The Martians dropped a May 15 home contest against Montrose, 2-1. Jessica Engler scored the lone goal for Goodrich, while Angela Taylor and Lauren Ruddy tallied goals for Montrose.
Goodrich will open district play May 27 as they host Lakeville at 5 p.m. Coach Nigel Barnett is optimistic the Martians will have a strong run in district action.
‘We need to tune up a bit, but we’re doing well,? he said.
