She was a familiar sight in downtown Clarkston, but sadly her floppy ears, droopy eyes and sweet demeanor will be gracing Main Street no longer.
‘On April 14, Marley, the Basset Hound, said goodbye to all her friends in Clarkston,? said Dick Hall, one of Marley’s caretakers.
Marley recently had a stroke and had to be put down.
‘It was a hard thing to do,? Hall said.
For many years, the 38-year Clarkston resident could often be seen walking Marley around town.
‘We’d go all different places, so people could get to see her. She was a little character. People would come out of their houses to see her. Some called her ‘Flash,? ’cause she walked so slow. We’d go over to the (Depot) park, too, so the kids could play with her.?
Hall contacted The Clarkston News because he wanted to let locals know why they wouldn’t be seeing Marley anymore.
‘Marley really meant everything to us,? the 73-year-old said. ‘She was like our little girl. I was called ‘grandpa? and my wife, (Dolores), was ‘grandma,? and Marley knew those names. She would get excited, so bubbly, when she knew she was coming over to see us and going for her walk.? The Halls? daughter, Bernadette, took care of Marley and brought her over to the Halls? home to visit.
‘She never got mean, never bit anyone,? Hall said, of Marley. ‘She meant the world to us. She will be missed.?
