Making history in the Lions Club

Groveland Twp.– Liz Rheaume made history when she was elected president of the Ortonville Lions Club in April.
The 48-year-old Groveland resident is the first woman president of the local club, which did not allow female members until about seven years ago.
‘Now the pressure’s on,? laughs Rheaume, who has been a member for five years and was vice-president last year of the 53-member philanthropic organization that raises funds for various charitable groups.
Rheaume will attend all regional and district meetings and will chair all local meetings, beginning with the Sept. 14 meeting. She will attend fundraising events for causes such as OCEF, Leader Dogs for the Blind, the Michigan Eye Bank, the Brandon Senior Lock-in, Boy Scout Troop 139 and Thanksgiving dinner at the Edna Burton Senior Center.
When Rheaume’s two children were small, she was involved in their scouting and sports activities. She enjoys giving back.
‘There are a lot of things I could do, but I would rather do this,? says Rheaume, who works four days a week as a secretary for two Clarkston attorneys. ‘For someone with no other place to turn, we want them to know someone is there to give them a hand.?
Rheaume is looking forward to ‘firing up? current members and raising lots of money this year to do lots of good in the community. She is looking for new members. For more information, call (248) 627-2723 or visit www.lionsdistrict11a2.com
