LOHS Thespian Troupe wins Technical Theater Olympics and several other awards at Thespian Festival in Detroit

Lake Orion High School’s Thespian Troupe attended the Michigan Educational Theater Association State Festival in Detroit last month.

The festival gives students the opportunity to attend workshops, compete in technical and performance events and audition for college scholarships.

For the third year in a row, LOHS is the Technical Theater Olympic Champions.

During this competition, Qwin Springel won first place in Rigging Knots and Abigail Proschk took first place in both Costume Quick Change and Best Overall Technician.

Outside of the Technical Theater Olympics several students received an Excellent in their respective events including:

• Alex Walters: Solo Musical Theatre

• Lily Woityra and Jaden Wilson: Duet Acting

• Jacob Johr, Savanah Ritter, Bryan Donoghue and Katie Royce: Group Acting

• Abigail Grantham, Kylie Schmehl and Ryah Beard: Group Acting

• Lady Mason, Brooke Babcock, Lexi Davis, Ritter, Maya Maurer and Royce: Group Musical Theatre

• Abby Pordon: Scenic Design

Other students received a Superior in their events and have qualified to perform at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival in May, as well as Nationals in June. These students include:

• Olivia Kelly: Solo Musical Theatre

• Mason and Donoghue: Duet Musical Theatre

• Bodi Johnson and Maurer: Duet Musical Theatre

• Johr and Johnson: Duet Acting

• Christina King: Makeup Design

Additionally, Ritter, Johr, Royce, Alexis Misiak, Grantham and Johnson received scholarship offers from different universities around the country totaling $838,500 between them. — M.K.
