Liquid Lightning hits the water

Over the Jan. 23 weekend, Lake Orion Liquid Lightning (LOLL) swim club headed to Indianapolis for the Circle City Invitational.
Twelve of the club’s members represented Orion at the top caliber event where they competed against teams from ten states across the country.
Ashley Corriveau was the club’s top scorer. She took second in the senior girls 50-freestyle event and third in the 100-freestyle.
Devon Nowicki also took a medal and Kristen Finney earned a finalist swim.
Mitchell Corriveau, Cheyne Stresky, Haley Kornburger, Danny Olthof, Austin Corriveau, Courtney McClear, Milan Spampinato, Brandon Nowicki and Emily Corriveau also competed.
This is the first year the club has participated in out-of-state events. And they’re doing well.
‘We’re expanding our horizons,? said Head Coach Tom Arusoo.
He’s been with the team for a year and a half and attributes their newly found success to the fresh attitude and philosophy the team’s adapted.
Arusoo also says the team members are swimming so well because they are able to buy into the vision the coaches have for the team.
‘It takes dedication and intense training,? said Arusoo. ‘It’s about having positive engery and a strong commitment.?
The team looks forward to the district championships in Waterford, Feb. 20 to 22, the Junior Olympics Feb. 27 to March 1 and the state championships later in March.
‘We’re always going forward,? Coach Arusoo said. ‘Always trying, pulling in the same direction to get somewhere together.?
