Lake Orion native heads to MSU for D1 hockey

Laker Aldridge, Lake Orion native, announced last week that he has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Michigan State University in the B1G. Until recently, Aldridge has played for the Maryland Black Bears in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

At 21, Aldridge is in his fourth and final season playing junior hockey in the NAH and has recorded 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists) in 49 games played so far during the 2021-22 regular season with the Black Bears.

Aldridge was also selected to and played in the 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Pittsburgh, PA, where he had a goal and an assist in two games.

“I have absolutely loved my time in Maryland. From the first-class organization, to being able to play in front of the awesome fans, I have absolutely loved my last year of junior hockey here. Coaches Mylymok, Weiss, and Schoen have done nothing but help me every step of the way and I am so grateful to be able to play for them,” Aldridge said in a press release.

“Laker is a fierce competitor, who plays the game hard every night. We are excited that he has committed to such a historic program, in a such strong conference. We are happy for Laker and look forward to watching him develop as a student/athlete over the next several years,” said Maryland head coach Clint Mylymok also in the release.

Aldridge has played three of his seasons in the NAHL with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs from 2018-21. His best career season was in 2019-20, when he had 33 points in 48 regular-season games.

Aldridge has played in 165 career regular-season games and recorded 95 points throughout his NAHL career.
