The Lake Orion High School varsity Hockey team kicked off their season last week with two losses (Canton and Marquette) and a win over Bloomfield Hills.
Their first faceoff was held at Detroit Skating Club on Nov. 19 against Canton. The close scoring game ultimately ended in a Dragon loss in overtime with a final score of 4-3. The Chiefs started off with an early lead scoring in the first period and again in the second but Lake Orion caught up quickly with two goals of their own in the second period. Both Lake Orion and Canton scored goals in the third period forcing an overtime where the Chiefs managed to score a fourth goal and solidify their win.
Scoring for the Dragons was Gunner Fornwall, Sam Haynes and Ryan Smith, all three of which also had assists. Ryan Howard and JJ Brackon also contributed an assist each. Goalie Ethan Parraghi saved 22 of the 26 shots on goal.
The next day, the boys hosted Marquette falling to the currently undefeated team 7-2. The Dragons kept pace in the first period with both teams scoring one goal but by the end of the second period Marquette had pulled ahead by four despite the Dragon effort.
Fornwall and Smith scored both goals for Lake Orion that night while Parraghi saved 25 of the 32 shots on goal.
On Nov. 27, the Dragons were on home ice again at DSC taking on Bloomfield Hills where Lake Orion was able to secure their first win of the season 3-1.
Lake Orion spread their three goals across each period only giving up one to the Black Hawks in the second period.
Scoring for the Dragons was Haynes, Jordan Splane and Andrew Jacques. Joe Smokoski and Nick Grancitelli both contributed assists and goalie Trent Mercer saved 29 of the 30 shots on goal.
The boys are back on the ice on Dec. 3 taking on Rochester United at Suburban Ice in Rochester.
