Keep busy this summer with local Parks and Rec. activities

There’s no reason the “lazy days of summer” need be lazy at all. Especially with all the activities happening around these parts.
Springfield Township Parks and Recreation and Independence Township Parks and Recreation are offering much to keep kids and adults alike active.
Lisa Goforth, recreation coordinator in Springfield Township, said the benefits to recreation are endless.
“The biggest benefits you can obtain in participating in recreational activities are quality time with your family; it builds self esteem; you can meet new people and make new friends; it educates you; it’s rewarding and you create lifelong memories from it,” she said. “Our mission is to build community pride and give opportunities for families to get together.”
Springfield Township offers about 50 different programs a year, from special events to specific classses, with an emphasis on small children and families.
In Independence, Kelly Arcello, recreation programmer said the department has 25 classes this summer plus special events, adult and junior sport teams, camps, preschool programs, lessons like swimming, and more.
“We offer an introduction to the outdoors and recreational sports. We’re here for the community and offer new experiences throughout the summer,” Arcello said.
