Kareen Lee Perry; age 59; passed away May 13, 2016. She was the daughter of the late William and Carol (Turner) Perry of Lake Orion.
Kareen attended Baldwin Elementary School in Pontiac at the age of seven before transferring to the Michigan School for the Blind in Lansing at age 12. She learned to read and write braille, play the piano and many living skills. She was the first blind/deaf person to graduate from MSB in 1981.
Many doctors told her mother to put her in an institution as a baby because she would not potty train, walk or talk. With the determination of her mother and help of the Lake Orion Lions Club, she grew to be a very intelligent young lady. Kareen lived at Heritage Place Apts. in Lake Orion for several years before moving to White Lake.
Kareen is survived by two brothers, Bill (Donna) of Lake Orion and Kenneth (Maureen) of Arkansas; aunts, June Smith of Lake Orion, Margie Ryckman of Lewiston, Michigan, Helen Lewis of Clarkston and Neva Kolodziejczak of Lake Orion; and many cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 12noon at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, Lake Orion. The family received friends on Tuesday from 11am until the time of service.
