John Daniel Klein, 61, of Midland died Sunday morning, July 9, 2023, at his home. He was born Jan. 11, 1962, in Alpena, son of Thomas Klein and the late Helen (Devericks) Klein.
John grew up in Lake Orion and graduated from Lake Orion High School in 1980. After graduation he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. During his time in the service, he developed a lifelong interest in computers.
John married the former Julia Szurgyi and together raised three children. They remained friends until her passing in 2022. John enjoyed a long career in IT working for numerous companies, including 17 years at EDS.
In 1998, he married the former Nanci David. They have blended their families together and shared their love for over 25 years.
John was a people person and he loved time spent with family and friends, especially with his kids. It didn’t matter if it was on a family trip, playing music with his cousins, or watching the Tigers with his dad. He also enjoyed playing video games and bonfires.
John will be missed by his wife, Nanci; children, Amanda (Ryan) Paul, Jonathan Klein, Corina (Joe Finkbeiner) Klein, Matthew (Ashley) Dawson, and Nicholas Dawson; father, Thomas Klein; siblings, Wesley (Kelly) Klein, Tommy (Annette) Klein, and Heather (Tim) Matas; and sister-in-law Barbara Klein. He is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother Reuban Klein and close friend Cliff Dawson.
Funeral services for John will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Pastor Tim Chappell will officiate. John’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday afternoon from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Interment will follow in Midland Memorial Gardens.
