‘It’s time?

Brandon Twp.- Fire Chief Bob McArthur has officially announced he will retire in January 2009.
‘It’s time,? he said, adding with a smile that he will use his retirement to go ‘hunting, fishing, and golfing.?
McArthur, 61, said he made the decision on when he would retire a few months ago, to allow the township to make accomodations in the 2008 budget for his leaving.
‘I want to make sure there is continuity for the department and the township,? said McArthur, who has been with the Brandon Fire Department for 33 years..
He has approval to hire a full-time firefighter, which will be chosen from a pool of current paid on-call firefighters. The hiring will allow him to move Capt. David Kwapis from shift commander to the administrative staff next month.
McArthur said the process of determining of who will be his successor will take place in August after an administrative review. Assistant Chief David Borst is eligible for retirement, although he hasn’t yet announced his plans.
