Christmas In Action did just that Saturday morning, renovating and restoring three houses in the Clarkston area.
‘This is better than Christmas, much better? said homeowner Bill Chamberlain. ‘Everybody is so busy and so friendly. They know what they’re doing.?
Chamberlain, who for health reasons has not been able to maintain his house, was nominated anonymously, he said.
‘Someone gave them my name, I don’t know who,? he said.
Christmas In Action raises funds for its annual work day at the Night of the Reindeer Races in January. The group works with Lighthouse North and Independence Township Senior Center when selecting recipients.
Applicants meet low-income and disability qualifications, and work with CIA volunteers on a ‘wish list? of projects.
Chamberlain’s wish list was two-and-a-half pages long, he said.
‘They’re great people ? it’s amazing how organized they are,? he said.
‘This far exceeded what I expected them to do.?
Volunteers from all over the community took part, many for the first time.
‘This is a good thing,? said Sharon Williams, first-timer. ‘We need to help each other. We have so many people here, it goes fast.?
Debbie Sexton and her daughter Hannah Sexton also took part.
‘It’s a wonderful feeling, to help somebody out,? Debbie said.
