On Friday, June 20, professional and amateur actors will combine their skills for a fund-raising event to end all fund-raising events.
OK, that may be a little dramatic, but, hey, it’s to benefit the Oxford High School Drama Club.
Taking the stage that night will be 2004 OHS grad Abbey Londer and her acting teammates, Allison Bosma and Howie Kremer, all of which have performed at the famous Second City Theatre in Chicago.
Instead of performing a short-form improvisation show, the trio will give the audience a taste of long-form improv, which simply means longer, more patient scenes.
‘Ultimately, we’re just here to have a good time, be goofy on stage and make you laugh,? Londer said.
Prior to the show, the actors will be working with the school’s Improv Team, teaching them how to properly build a scene.
‘With short-form (improv), it’s very fun and fast, but beneath that is the structure of the scene ? the meat and potatoes,? she said. ‘We want to show them how to accept the choices they’ve made and then explore and heighten those choices through their character, and to have them focus on the relationship of the scene.?
OHS’s Improv Team will be one of the two opening acts for the night, along with 2006 grad Peter Banachowski.
Banachowski, a junior at Oakland University and former Drama Club member, will also be performing some stand-up comedy prior to the main act.
‘The (improv) community (in Michigan) is much smaller, but that doesn’t seem to have stopped him from doing as much as he can of what he loves,? Londer said, adding that he’s one of her closest friends. ‘Oh ? and he’s kinda funny!?
If you’re interested in attending this show stopper, it begins at 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds will benefit the Drama Club.
