Helping neighbors with Project SHALOM

It’s all about sharing, helping and loving when Lake Orion United Methodist Church hosts Project SHALOM, which was held Oct. 13-14.
‘We complete home repairs for people in our community who are not able to do this on their own home,? Lake Orion United Methodist Church Youth Director and Project SHALOM Administrator Renee Albert said. ‘We wash windows, do yard work, do interior and exterior painting, put new roofs on homes and build wheel chair ramps.?
According to Albert, local youth and adults from United Methodist are joined with some representatives from Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church for the project.
‘This year was the 29th year of our church hosting Project SHALOM,? she added.
‘We are totally funded through donations and registration fees that youth and adults pay to work on Project SHALOM weekend.?
This time around, the SHALOM work teams featured 241 youth and 85 adult volunteers. The different groups worked to complete requests from 67 care receivers in the community.
‘There were also a large number of adults who worked on support teams and the kitchen crew to make sure we were fed and taken care of during the work weekend,? Albert said in regards to all the volunteer help.
