The Groveland Township Board approved a liquor control ordinance effective May 20, 2004. The ordinance contends with the regulation of alcohol liquor traffic within the township. Under terms of the ordinance are standards and procedures for review of applications, renewals, transfer and revocations of licenses to sell beer, wine and/or liquor. The township will provide enforcement and penalties for the violations. Currently, six liquor licences exist within the township which includes two bars and four retail outlets.
The local liquor control ordinance is expected to bring in approximately $2,700 annually to the township coffers. The funding will be directed toward the Michigan State Police rather than the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department to help enforce the ordinance.
